It's that time of year once more. People are buying tons of presents for each other, holiday music is playing in every store and shopping mall, and ABC Family has their annual "25 Days of Christmas." That being said some of the best holiday movies are being played in anticipation for the big holidays toward the end of the month. This week's silver spotlight is dedicated to some holiday movies recommended for anyone that loves a good flick in the spirit of the holiday season.

The first movie on the list is Elf. Will Ferrell plays a human by the name of Buddy who ends up in the North Pole as a baby. From then on he is raised as an elf, but as he gets older there are some complications. Santa finally tells Buddy that he is a human and sends him on a journey to find his real father in New York. Needless to say, comedy ensues as Buddy tries to adapt to the drastic change of lifestyle. It's a great movie for anyone who loves a comedic film with some genuine heartfelt emotions. It also has a narwhal, and what's not to love about narwhals?

The second movie on the list is the classic Santa Claus is Comin' to Town. This stop motion Christmas classic from the 70s is about a mailman who tells the origin of Santa Claus and explains things like why Santa has a beard and why his reindeer fly. The charm of this movie comes from the characters and the songs sung throughout while reminiscing of a simpler time. This is a great movie to watch with the family because mom and dad probably grew up with this movie, but that being said it's a great movie for anyone to get into the spirit of the holidays.

My last recommendation for this holiday season is The Santa Clause. Tim Allen stars as a newly divorced father named Scott who struggles in a custody battle for his son. On Christmas Eve, he accidentally scares Santa who falls off of his roof and disappears leaving just his coat. Scott puts on the coat that commences a startling transformation that's explained in the "Santa Clause." It's another heartfelt comedy for everyone in the family, and many say The Santa Clause is the best in the trilogy.

There are a lot of great holiday movies out there whether you watch them from the comforts of home or at the movie theater. While the "25 Days of Christmas are playing on TV as well as many different holiday specials of popular shows, there are also great movies like The Muppets, Hugo, and Arthur Christmas out right now that are great to see with the family. No matter where you go you can be assured that there's a great holiday movie or special waiting. Happy holidays!
