Creativity meets Valentine’s Day

When a box of chocolates just won’t cut it

Valentine's Day is less than a week away, leaving us little time to save for an extravagant dinner or expensive jewelry; being college students costs enough! Here's the thing I have found: the most thoughtful gifts are almost always the least expensive and offer more memories than any store-bought gift. Full story

Pick-up lines to use or not to use...you be the judge

On any given Friday night there are hundreds of singles trying out a pick-up line on someone at a bar. No matter where you go, pick-up lines are one of greatest ways to get a date and maybe even a relationship. But the question is: Do they work?  Even in the very beginning of cinema, Humphrey Bogart said to Ingrid Bergman "Here's lookin' at you, kid" and then shared a passionate kiss.

LOVES ME, LOVES ME NOT

UW-L students share best and worst Valentine’s Day moments

"My best Valentines Day memory is when I was single and 17 and I went with my best friend Meg to the mall where they had a booth set up for couples to take kissy photos of themselves in and so then we would wait until a couple was in there for awhile and…we would throw the curtains open and act like we didn't know anybody was in there and act all surprised when we caught them making out.

A bro’s guide to gift giving

This randomly picked day can be simply explained as a boost in the economy with a surge in sales of chocolates, roses and intimate novelties.  As college girls, we disagree with Forest Gump—life's not a box of chocolates, we prefer to know exactly what we're getting. 1 comment

YOUR GUIDE

Valentine’s Day doesn’t have to be all about roses, candy, teddy bears and candles

If you are single, do not… Talk to or about your ex. Enough said. You will not get anything good out of it. You will probably end up drowning yourself in a pool of pity. Tell yourself how miserable you are without a boyfriend/girlfriend.

Students’ artwork featured at UW-L Juried Art Exhibition

Art is defined as the product or process of deliberately arranging items in a way that influences and affects one or more of the senses, emotions and intellect. But, the artists involved in the UW-La Crosse Student Juried Art Exhibition define art as a form of expression and something that can't be defined.

Critic’s Corner

In a shadowy scope speckled with the often faceless remnants of a life just ended, one finds a casualty of suicide awakening after their endeavor has been effectively accomplished.  It is a predetermined universe overflowing with spiritual enumerations, mental jargon and harshly frequent expressions of demolition.

Mid-life Mayhem

Witty banter makes Pump House production a must see

Going Greek

An inside look at Chi Phi, the newest fraternity on campus

At the start of the semester, UW-La Crosse was pleased to welcome a new Greek organization to its family. The newest UW-L fraternity, Chi Phi, was founded by two sophomores, President Harry Kirchoff and Vice President Ryan Waeffler. Rally to the REC May 6 for the campus concert of the year

Who hasn't heard the catchy pop single, "In My Head?"  The answer:  not many, and on May 6th UW-La Crosse's Recreational Eagle Center will be transformed into a concert venue for the song's renowned artist, Jason DeRülo! Some would call DeRülo (born Jason Joel Desrouleaux) a rising star, but one could argue that he has already reached a level of success that most could never dream of.

Big band theory

Blaring trumpets, shrieking saxophones, thundering drums, ivory keys and deep tones of the trombone make up the sound of a jazz big band. Jazz is a spontaneous play on notes that are used both in the improvisational and mythological sense. On Feb. 19th the UW-La Crosse Department of Music  Jazz Studies program will host Big Band Cabaret.

Almost, Maine

The UW-La Crosse Department of Art does more than just talk the talk.  Each year the department puts its young artists to the test by giving them the opportunity to have their talents on display. Students from various disciplines across campus will grace UW-L with their work in a special exhibition in the Center for the Arts gallery.

Need a new CRU?

Students find campus organization has welcoming environment

The name "Campus Crusaders for Christ (CRU)" may not evoke visions of entertainment for all. In fact, some may be surprised that friends, fun games, laughs, food and wholesome Christian messages are all major components of CRU. If these components sound like a good time, CRU may be for you. 1 comment

Musical comedy to be performed at UW-L

You don't have to travel all the way to New York to see a famous Broadway play this semester. The UW-La Crosse Department of Theatre Arts will be putting on the infamously hilarious play, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels. UW-L theatre productions are always top notch.
