Carmen Wilson, currently the Chief of Staff to the Chancellor and UWL's affirmative action officer, will be leaving the university on Dec. 1 to be the Campus Executive Officer Dean at UW- Rock County. The position at the two year college in Rock County is similar to the position of the chancellor at UWL.
The process to find her replacement has not yet been started. Chancellor Gow said, "she has a unique skill set; it's doubtful that we will simply replace her. We will need to think of a way to restructure her responsibilities." Restructuring her responsibilities may even result in some budget savings, according to Gow.
Wilson has been at UWL for 16 and has served many leadership roles such as faculty senate chair, search and screen chair, and the accreditation team. "I've learned how to work with people to make things happen," said Wilson about her experience. "The skills I have developed as a leader here will serve me well in Rock County."
Over the years, she has been involved in a variety of positions, starting as a psychology faculty member. Eventually she had opportunities to become a part of administration. The position opportunity at Rock County came to her through being nominated for the job. Nominations for positions are very common in higher education.
UW-Rock County is a 2 year college with an enrollment of 1200. Students at Rock County complete all their general education courses to earn a liberal arts associate degree within those two years. They have guaranteed transfer to a UW-System university, with all credits being transferable, and it is there that they complete their bachelor's degree and major.
