The ReadyWisconsin campaign strives to help the citizens of Wisconsin prepare for emergencies by providing information, materials and resources. As the winter conditions in the state of Wisconsin begin to set in, readywisconsin.wi.gov is ready to help people stay safe and prepare for the cold, since 2008.
Wisconsin's weather can be unpredictable. According to www.exactaweather.com, "Weather models are showing an increased likelihood for major snow events in Northeastern and Midwestern parts of the US throughout December 2011 and January 2012."
The website provides information on how to make an emergency supply kit, how to make a family emergency plan, particular emergencies that residents may encounter and how to appropriately respond to these emergencies, and, lastly, the website shares how residents can get involved in emergency preparedness and response in their own communities.
According to ReadyWisconsin's website, over the last five years there have been nearly 20,000 vehicle crashes in Wisconsin during the winter months. ReadyWisconsin wants to make sure that people are prepared. The site suggests that residents keep an emergency supply kit in their vehicle at all times. In addition, the site urges that residents keep blankets, flashlights and shovels in their vehicles.
In addition to preparing your car for the winter months, ReadyWisconsin's website also shares tips on how to prepare your house and family for the winter months. The site suggests that homes are equipped with, "dry, seasoned wood, a fire extinguisher, rock salt, sand and a shovel or other snow removal equipment."
