The National Residence Hall Honorary (NRHH) continues to remain involved on campus and in the community. This organization has made it their mission to provide a great on-campus living experience for students and recognize the accomplishments of others. They also provide funding for on-campus events and for residence hall improvements. "NRHH is a wonderful organization on campus that strives to give back to those that have already given so much for us," Craig Orcholski said, who is the liaison between RHAC and NRHH. "We recognize people for what they do on this campus solely because too many good things happen at this university that often go unnoticed. We strive to showcase the positive parts of our campus that are often forgotten in all the hubbub of university life." NRHH consists of 1% of the people living in residence Halls. Since there are about 3,000 on-campus students, the La Crosse chapter is made up of 30 members. One of their main goals is to fulfill and address four categories: academics, leadership, community service, and recognition. NRHH is composed of seven different committees, which help to carry out their respective missions. The first committee, academics, helps students in the residence halls develop better academic habits. They also find fun ways to recognize the academic success of students. The second committee is community service, and it is their job to develop a service project that the organization will take on in order to give back to UW-L and the La Crosse community. Leadership is the third committee; they are responsible for encouraging leadership throughout the halls by putting on campus-wide activities. They also travel to local area high schools to encourage students to become involved. The fourth committee is Recognition Days, and they take care of recognizing groups that help make the residence halls a better place to live. The fifth committee is called "Breakfast of Champions/Campus Recognition," and it is their job to provide a recognition breakfast to the often-underappreciated departments that help make this campus great. They also work to make sure sports teams are getting the recognition and support they deserve. The sixth committee is the application committee, and it is their job to plan the induction ceremony of new members, which takes place at each semester break. They also aid in the selection of new members; applications will be available later in the year. The seventh and final committee is called "OTM", or "Of the Months." They recognize a person or organization, such as an RA, social program, etc., that they feel did an excellent job of giving back to the community that month. UWL's chapter of NRHH is in the running for the Great Lakes Affiliate for College and University Residence Halls (GLACURH) NRHH Chapter of the Year. This award is given to the NRHH Chapter that has been extremely active on their campus and throughout their community as a whole. The award will be given at the GLACURH regional conference, which is being held at Saginaw Valley State in Michigan. UWL's chapter is responsible for putting together a packet of information, called a "bid," to explain what they have done in the past year to deserve this award. Anyone interested in becoming involved in NRHH should visit http://reslife.uwlax.edu/nrhh for more information.
