Looking for a great way to get out and enjoy the winter? Look no further, because the UW-La Crosse Ski and Snowboard Club is preparing a ton of events and trips to keep the boredom away this winter. All are welcome regardless of experience. Currently, there are 45 members in the UW-L Ski and Snowboard Club, but that number is rapidly increasing as the winter weather nears.
From Jan. 1 to Jan. 8, the UW-L Ski and Snowboard Club will be taking a trip out west to enjoy the fresh powder and scenery at Copper Mountain in Colorado. The club will be taking a day trip to go ski at Vail Mountain. Don't worry if you can't go ;there are plenty of other trips and events planned during the snow season.
There will also be weekly trips to Mt. La Crosse on Mondays. For skiers and riders on a budget, Mt. La Crosse rates are very economical with lift tickets for only $10 on Monday nights with a valid student I.D.
For the avid skiers and riders out there, the UW-L Ski and Snowboard Club will also be making a trip to Nordic Mountain for a rail jam competition and to Cascade Mountain for a big air competition this winter as well. But, all are welcome to join, even if you are not planning on participating in the competition. For those who have never been skiing or snowboarding, you can go with the club to Mt. La Crosse and learn from one of the members.
The UW-L Ski and Snowboard Club will also be hosting a number of events for people to just hang out. These events include a waxing class and movie showings of ski and snowboard videos made by big companies, such as Matchstick or Rome. Being a part of the club also has some benefits. Members receive discounts from sponsors. This includes discounts on products by Pro Skate, 686, Rome, Fatypus, Icelantic and Snowboard in La Crosse. This doesn't even begin to discuss the benefits you receive just for having an active role in a ski and snowboard community, like bettering yourself as a rider and making great friends along the way. "It's great for people without transportation to get out and ride," said Alyssa Laws, the club President. For those with a vehicle, you will be reimbursed for gas if you transport people to and from the ski hills and events.
The UW-L Ski and Snowboard Club is a great way to get outside during the grueling winter months and enjoy the weather and scenery. Skiing and snowboarding are both great sports that can be enjoyed for a lifetime. It's also a great way to stay in shape and meet some pretty cool people too. If you are interested in joining, email the club at skisnowboard@uwlax.edu or visit their Facebook page, UW-L Skiboard Club.
