Right now, nothing could be going better for Green Bay Packer fans. If starting the season 4-0 isn't enough, quarterback Brett Favre is already having a season to remember.
Entering Sunday's game against the Vikings, Favre was tied with Dan Marino for the all time mark for touchdown passes with 420. Needing only one to break the record, it seemed certain that the Metrodome would be the place to do it.
Favre did not want to wait very long, and with 4:56 left in the first quarter, he threw a bullet to Greg Jennings slanting across the middle for a 16-yard TD reception. He proceeded in what has been his most recent touchdown celebration of hoisting the receiver up on his back and carrying him around, evidence of Favre's youthful passion for the game which he still plays with.
Looking back at the start of the season through the first four games, it is impossible to tell that Favre has been in the league for 17 years. He's playing like he did in his prime when he led the team to two Super Bowls, and he is still just as excited as he was back then when he throws a touchdown pass.
As Favre jogged back to the sidelines, he was congratulated by teammates and his wife, who he met in the first row behind the Packers' sideline. As the announcement was made over the loudspeaker in the Metrodome that Favre had passed Marino for the touchdown record, both Packer and Viking fans stood to applaud Favre for his accomplishment. It was evidence of just how much respect Favre has earned throughout his career from the league and it's fans.
There was also a message from Dan Marino that was played over the loudspeaker. He said that he was glad Favre was the one to break his record because of the type of player that he is. Hopefully, Favre will be able to hold on to the record for 13 years like Marino, or possibly longer. He helped his cause as he threw one more touchdown pass in the fourth quarter, helping the Packers win their fourth of the season and remain undefeated.
He is a Hall of Fame quarterback, and he continues to set records with every game that he plays. Even with all of the hype surrounding his newly accomplished record, Favre continues to focus on the season at hand. The records mean a lot, but leading his team to their third Super Bowl appearance in his Packer career would be an even greater accomplishment than the rest.
