Derek Kockler and Kyle O'Brien spent their last night of spring break polishing up their ideas for the campaign. Presidential hopeful Derek Kockler had a few words to speak on behalf of his campaign.
"I strongly believe students are the core of this institution," said Kockler in a one on one interview.
Kockler says his interests in running rely on his strong belief in the student voice. As an aspiring ambassador for the students, Kockler says he really wants to work with students to help increase and make student life better here on campus.
With many of the candidate's passion already held within the student body, Kockler insisted that he is maintaining his step ahead of the crowd through his developing platform. As Kockler and O'Brien are still working out their key platform ideas, they were willing to share a couple of their current ideas.
"One thing we have been talking about is a student advantage card which would be free for students." Kockler explains through this card, students would be able to shop at local businesses with discounts.
"This card would be given to either all students or all students [living] on campus. The card offers networking within the community, while giving students an extra incentive/boost during their stay here," Kockler followed up.
When it comes to addressing key issues, Kockler says he keeps his focus at a reasonable level.
"A lot of times you will see candidates offer a whole plethora of options and things they want to change. And they have all these great ideas and initiatives, but in reality it doesn't all get done," said Kockler. "In the past, candidates have offered a variety of appealing ideas which have yet to be done."
"There was one candidate a couple years back who promised to put a credit union on campus. I thought this was a great idea and unbelievable opportunity for students instead of relying what we have now, such as tower tender. I endorsed him for that, but unfortunately we didn't see that happen," Kockler said.
