Sitting at 9-8 in the extremely tough Wisconsin Volleyball Conference, the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse men's club volleyball team feels they are battle tested heading into the National Campus Championship Series Volleyball Championships in Dallas, Texas. The team will enter the Division II bracket of the tournament, after playing Division I teams like UW-Oshkosh, UW-Whitewater, Lakeland College, and Marquette University. "We feel like we're pretty well prepared," said team vice president Jack Demski, "Oshkosh and Lakeland are all highly ranked in Division I".
Team president Alex Cloutier and floor captain Charlie Veldre lead the UW-L attack, while setter Eric Neuens directs the offense and libero JD Shaw directs the defensive effort. The 5-1 offensive scheme allows for plenty of kills for Cloutier and Veldre, as they had combined for 327 before last weekend's play.
The team matched their 2007 finish by tying for third place at the WVC Championships last weekend. The guys also took third at the WVC Pre-Season tournament and won the Eau Claire Invitational. This all came after a successful finish to the 2007 season with a ninth place finish at the National Tournament in Louisville.
"We're hoping to get a three or four seed at nationals," added Demski, "we should really have a successful showing."
