Ever since Tiger Woods won the 1997 Masters by twelve strokes he has forever been linked to the prestigious golf tournament.
The first major of the 2008 season gets underway tomorrow in Augusta, Georgia and Woods is the clear cut favorite.
Woods has been dominant lately; having won seven of the last eight tournaments he has entered. The world's number one player took last week off, but will be looking to win his fifth Masters title this weekend.
Phil Mickelson is off to a good start in 2008 and wouldn't mind adding a third green jacket to his wardrobe. Lefty won earlier this year at the Northern Trust Open and has been playing well as of late. Mickelson and Woods have combined to win five of the last seven Masters.
Other contenders include Vijay Singh, J.B. Holmes, Geoff Ogilvy, and Wisconsin native Steve Stricker.
Singh has four top ten finishes this year is always a threat at Augusta since winning the green jacket in 2000.
Augusta National favors players who can drive the ball a long ways, making Holmes a dark horse to win because of his early 2008 success and booming drives.
Ogilvy has been playing good golf this spring and is looking for his first Masters title. The Australian native won at the CA Championship earlier this year against a star studded cast.
Another golfer with four top ten finishes this season is Stricker. He is ranked seventh on the FedEx Cup Standings and is coming off a really good 2007 season.
Don't count out other contenders such as Steward Cink, Jim Furyk, or K.J. Choi, as the field is wide open after Woods and Mickelson.
Last year's Masters Champion, Zach Johnson, only has two top 25 finishes this year. Johnson, who won with a one-over par score in 2007, would need some magic to repeat this year.
The Shell Houston Open served as a tune up to this week's Masters tournament and Johnson Wagner came away with the victory.
The Masters will be televised on ESPN for the first two rounds this year while Saturday and Sunday coverage will be on CBS.
