UW-L Sixth in NACDA Director's Cup Standings After Winter Season

At the conclusion of the 2008 winter sports season, the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse is in sixth-place in the Sports Academy Directors' Cup Division III Standings. The Eagles have 468.50 points while Washington University, Mo. is first with 693.50 points.
Amherst College, Mass. is second (647.00) followed by Williams College, Mass. (617.25), The College of New Jersey (516.00) and Middlebury College, Vt. (508.50) to round out the top-five.
UW-Whitewater is eighth (442.00) while UW-Stevens Point is 11th (399.50), UW-Eau Claire 15th (351.00), UW-Platteville 20th (314.50) and UW-Oshkosh 23rd (308.00).
These are the final winter standings and include the sports of women's and men's basketball, fencing, women's and men's ice hockey, skiing, women's and men's swimming, women's and men's indoor track & field and wrestling. UW-L was awarded 100 points for the men's track & field team winning the 2008 NCAA Division III Championship; 90 points for the wrestling team placing second at the national championships; 77.5 points for the women's track & field team tying for fourth at the national meet and 63 points for the women's swimming & diving team finishing 13th at the national championships.
UW-L was in 23rd-place at the completion of the 2007 fall sports season.
The Sports Academy Directors' Cup was developed as a joint effort between the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) and USA Today. The United States Sports Academy, based in Daphne, Alabama, is the program sponsor. Points are awarded based on each institution's finish in up to 18 sports -- nine women's and nine men's.
UW-L, which has eight top-10 finishes in the 12 years of the Directors' Cup program, was a school-best seventh in 2003-04, 2004-05 and 2006-07. UW-L is one of six institutions in NCAA Division III history to finish in the top-20 all 12 years joining Williams College (Mass.), The College of New Jersey, Amherst College (Mass.), Middlebury College (Vt.) and Cortland State (N.Y.).
