UW-L commits to international environmental declaration

Just last week, students were asked if they wanted to invest five dollars per semester in renewable energy and energy efficiency on campus. The answer, with 2222 votes and from 89% of students voting, was a resounding, "Yes." The referendum came right before Earth Week (this week).

Student Association president-elect speaks

Student Association elections were held last week with Derek Kockler and Kyle O'Brien taking the lead as president and vice president, respectively, for the 2008-09 school year. Kockler was excited about his newly acquired position and was willing to share his thoughts about the whole process.

Students and the La Crosse community rallied behind the fundraising efforts of the UW-L Foundation Friday in a last-minute fundraising blitz to pull together $2.3 million to keep the upcoming stadium project on schedule. The funding crisis began two weeks ago when contractor bids for the stadium came in severely over budget.

Three UW-L students recently participated in the International COMAP Mathematical Contest in Modeling. The team's solution ranked in the top 14% out of 1162 other entries, earning a merit status. Team members included Gus Borstad, Jarod Hart, and Kirk Wienkes.

SA looking to hire 2008/2009 Board of Directors

Student Association is seeking applicants for its Board of Director positions for the 2008 - 2009 school year. These positions are paid positions that offer UW-L students the opportunity to have a job while being an advocate for UW-L. The available positions cover a broad spectrum of opportunities for any type of student interested in being involved on campus.

Outreach to Teach event improves Prescott schools

Over the weekend of April 12, students in the La Crosse chapter of the Student Wisconsin Education Association, along with other students from all over the state, participated in an event to help improve schools in Prescott, Wisconsin. As a part of the Outreach to Teach event, the 200 involved students painted, organized, and did yard work at Prescott's elementary, middle, and high schools.

While many students spent spring break soaking up the sun, a delegation of UW-L students traveled to Washington D.C. to learn more about higher education legislation. Last Thursday, Student Senator Steve Trimborn and former RHAC president Carl Oliver shared their experience in Washington D.

South Africa trip open to UW-L students

The Pacific Challenge is now offering a three week study abroad Escape Program to South Africa taking place August 5th through the 23rd. The trip itinerary includes flight from New York to Capetown, all transportation thereafter, accommodations, and multiple adventurous activities.
