Student Association elections were held last week with Derek Kockler and Kyle O'Brien taking the lead as president and vice president, respectively, for the 2008-09 school year. Kockler was excited about his newly acquired position and was willing to share his thoughts about the whole process.
"The campaign process was a really exciting and exhausting thing," Kockler said. "Jumping in a little late, I thought I was always sprinting to play catch up."
Kockler said that his energy towards voting day was fueled by the support he had from his team.
"Kyle and I had our work cut out for us. We were really organized and we were lucky enough to have some really helpful people allowing us stay focused throughout the two weeks."
Kockler also commented how after finding out he became president; he knew he would have to start his hard work early.
"Most of this year is going to be the transition. We are working closely with Fred and Joe Gow to make the transition as soon as possible. It is such an incredible learning curve to be able to begin to be efficient and effective in office."
Among starting work on the structure of the student senate, Kockler was looking forward toward implementing his ideas such as the Student Advantage Card.
Kockler held no worries for next year.
"It's been awhile since working with senate during freshman year. Having the knowledge how senate runs and the resources of working with different administrators is key to people on campus getting caught up to speed, I'm not worried about the particular fine details," Kockler said. "Having an in depth knowledge of the formalities I feel works to my advantage."
Exact result for the 2008 Student Assication elections were not available to The Racquet at press time and will be made aavailable after the Student Senate metting at 6pm Wednesday night.
