Sunscreen: Prevent a Summer Bummer

Summer is just around the corner, and the influx of warm days has provided the opportunity for some early fun in the sun! The two coats and a sweatshirt you used to need to head to class have been replaced with flip flops and short sleeves; and the sleds have finally been traded in for frisbees and volleyballs. After a long winter, it is nice to be out in the sun for a change, especially when that sun is helping to add a little color to the pasty white arms and legs we hid beneath behind wool sweaters and long underwear; which is all well and good…providing that color is not red.
The truth is, too often in our rush to soak up some rays we forget how sensitive our skin is to the sun. While it feels great to lie out and bathe in the warmth, it feels terrible to walk around sunburned for days after. Thus, skin protection, though easily forgotten, is vital to pain-free summer sun enjoyment. But slathering on the SPF does not have to be a hassle, or ruin your summer glow. Today's line of sun protection products has a range of options for a wide variety of activities. Before you hit the beach, take a look at these sun screen products that are sure to keep you covered this summer.
Tinted Sunscreen: If you avoid sun-screening to protect your makeup, you risk exposing sensitive skin, like that on the tip of your nose, to harmful sun rays. Instead, try starting your summer look with a tinted sun-screen like Skin911. This formula is not only rated SPF 60, it is also an effective concealer, coming in a variety of shades. If you are hard pressed to stick to your old routine, than at least consider the make-up you are wearing. Though some foundations advertise their sun protection, others have sun blocking ingredients mixed right in. Look for foundations, blush, and eye shadow with titanium dioxide, a natural sunscreen.
"Tanning" Sunscreen: Though there is no such thing as a "safe" tan, a new line of products are trying to lessen the effects of harmful rays, while still allowing you to get a healthy glow. Clarins, a French beauty company, now offer two "tanning" formulas that offer SPF 20 protection and still allow you to tan. Though the sun block may be effective, it certainly does not have the same impact as a higher grade SPF so multiple reapplications are needed to ensure coverage throughout the day. Also, when looking for a sunscreen that will allow you to tan, be sure to avoid tanning oil which has no sun protection.
