Show some respect!

Issue date: 4/30/08 Section: Opinion
I am writing because I came home from work yesterday and was annoyed by all of the rude customers. And I was even more frustrated because I know that these are my fellow students and educated people who attend UW-L. I have worked at the Badger Street Deli for four and a half years and currently work at Chars for my last semester here at UW-L. As I'm about to leave La Crosse, I just want to tell people to have some respect!
First of all, the employees who serve you food are not the ones who make the rules. I did not go into work and decide that you can't have extra cheese or double meat. I never looked at you and decided I'll give you less chicken strips for no reason. So don't be rude or snotty to us. Most of us are your fellow students. We go to class and are involved on campus and also have a job.
Even for those who don't go to UW-L, you have no reason to be rude to them. So please, stop rolling your eyes at us when we try to explain the rules. If you have an issue, join the Student Dining Committee and tell our bosses about it. They are the ones looking over our shoulders making sure we don't give you extra meat and I'm not going to risk getting in trouble or fired because you're yelling at me about it.
Also, stop leaving your garbage all over the place. I seriously want to walk up to students and ask them how old they are. Yes, we get paid to serve you food and clean up the tables. But I do not think leaving all of your nasty garbage and food all over the tables is appropriate for adults, especially educated college students.
I have wished some things were different with our food service too and as a student, there are times I've felt that I'm getting ripped off but please stop taking it out on the wrong people!
