The UW-L Concert Choir has already had a busy year juggling semester concerts and special events. On top of their popular Festival of Carols, held at Viterbo this year, and their Winter Concert in March, the choir also welcomed Chancellor Joe Gow at his inauguration, played for the Heritage Night during Oktoberfest last fall, and performed as a guest choir at both the Music Teachers' Convention in Madison and the Great River Show Choir Festival.
The Concert Choir is a talented group of vocalists whose love for music has taken them across the globe. Not only does the choir frequently involve international students studying at UW-L, the group also tours outside the US about every four years. In May of 2006 the Concert Choir traveled through France and Germany with the UW-L Symphony Orchestra, staying for several days in La Crosse's sister city Epinal, France. Next spring the choir is planning a trip to Ireland and Scotland.
The Concert Choir's final performance of the semester features not only the choir itself, but also the UW-L Vocal Jazz Ensemble and guest high school choir, the Robed Choir from G-E-T High School, conducted by UW-L graduate Ryan Stuempges.
Incorporating its international music experience, the Concert Choir will be singing pieces from Serbia, Mexico, Kenya, Great Britain, and the US with a plethora of guest accompaniment including faculty members Dr. Tammy Fisher on percussion, Dr. Christopher Frye on piano, and numerous student instrumentalists.
This Concert Choir show will also recognize graduating seniors, and closes with a combined performance of UW-L conductor Gary Walth's arrangement of the spiritual, "Wade in the Water."
The Concert Choir's final performance of the year is at 7:30pm, next Tuesday, May 6th. The concert is in Annett Recital Hall, Center for Arts and admission is free.
