Women's Track wins second straight

The UW-La Crosse women's track & field team captured its second straight Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Outdoor Championship Saturday afternoon at UW-Eau Claire. The Eagles, who have now won nine of the last 11 outdoor conference meets, finished with 192.0 points Saturday while UW-Eau Claire was second with 158.5. UW-Oshkosh placed third (140.5) followed by UW-River Falls (118.0), UW-Stevens Point (77.0), UW-Stout (51.0), UW-Platteville (50.0), UW-Whitewater (46.0) and UW-Superior (24.0).
UW-L has earned 24 outdoor conference titles in school history.
In Saturday's action, the Eagles' AnnMarie Glejf captured the heptathlon title (4,225 points) while teammate Lauren Terry was eighth (3,726). Abby Lien took the 400-meter hurdles (1:03.13) championship while UW-L swept the 4x100 (47.92) and 4x400 (3:54.35) meter relays.
Other top finishes on the track Saturday included four runners in the top-eight in the 100-meter dash, including Katie Steingraeber who was fourth (12.77). Kailey Charlton was sixth (12.79), Cassie Grosse seventh (12.85) and Stephanie Lasko eighth (12.88). The Eagles also had four finishers in the top-nine in the 200-meter dash as Sarah Duchow led the way with a third-place finish (25.36). Caitlin Schetter was fourth (25.62), Steingraeber seventh (25.94) and Caitlin Wippermann ninth (26.37). In the 400-meter dash, Danica Schaefer finished third (59.22), Caitlin Perra was fourth (59.80) and Ashley Pershing seventh (1:00.28).
In the 100-meter hurdles, Chris Claussen was second (15.00), Alecia Ellingstad sixth (15.49) and Maggie May ninth (16.04). May also finsihed seventh (1:07.69) in the 400-meter hurdles.
Michelle Horn was eighth in the 800-meter run (2:25.03) while Kristina Bennitz placed seventh (18:20.92) and Whitney Nefstead 10th (18:37.86) in the 5,000-meter run.
In the field events, UW-L had seven finishes in the top-10 in the triple jump, led by Schetter's second-place finish (11.76 meters). Glejf was third (11.41) for the Eagles while Ashton May finished fourth (11.21), Jessie Schulz sixth (11.15), Katie Fondow seventh (11.09), Abby Schulz ninth (10.85) and Maggie May tied for 10th (10.81).
Sara Mitchell tied for sixth in the high jump (4-11 1/2) for the Eagles while Jenna Starck was 10th (4-11 1/2). Christy Bohl recorde two top-10 finishes Saturday as she placed fifth in the shot put (41-4 1/2) and eighth in the discus throw (133-7).
UW-L returns to action Thursday, May 15 hosting the NCAA Qualifier at 4 p.m.
