UW-La Crosse’s starters gained a huge 76-67 team victory for the Eagles against UW-River Falls on Wednesday, Feb. 17 at Mitchell Hall.
Five starters for the Eagles ended the night in double figures. Danielle Frank had a double-double, dropping 15 and gaining 11 rebounds.
During the first half, the Falcons struggled with shooting, making 13 for 33 from the field and 0 for 7 from three-point land. The Eagles took advantage of the Falcons’ shaky start. The Eagles went on a 14-4 run when the score was a close 16-15.
Lindsey Litrenta, an Eagles guard, explains, “We played great as a team. Even though everyone didn’t get to play, everybody had a vital part in winning this game. It was a whole team win.”
After the run, the Eagles went on to shoot 51% in the second half and never looked back. The largest lead was by 18, midway through the second half.
Although the Eagles struggled at first against the Falcons’ press, Litrenta states, “As a team we realized that we’ve seen this before, so we needed to slow it down and just do what we are capable of doing.”
With the impressive win, The Eagles headed into this contest well prepared. Litrenta explains, “We had four practices to prepare for this game. We practiced against the Falcons’ plays, and we knew what they were going to do before they even did. It was unbelievable.”
The “Think Pink” game on Thursday was part of the WBCA Pink Zone, which raises breast cancer awareness on campuses and in communities. The Eagles played in pink uniforms to show support.
With the win over the Falcons, the Eagles moved up in the WIAC standings going into the playoffs. Playoffs will begin on Feb. 23.
