For over 30 years Western Technical College (WTC) has been able to boast about the fact that it is one of the few technical colleges in Wisconsin that offers a residence hall. The high demand to live in a residence hall, along with the expiring lease on the current building contributed to the decision to build a new resident hall located at the corner of La Crosse Street and 9th Street.
Architectural plans started 4 years ago and construction on the 75,000 square foot hall began June 2009. The building is scheduled to be completed this August and be functional for their Fall 2010 semester.
The new residence hall will be suite style living with 4 people per suite. Each suite will have a common area with a kitchenette containing everything except for a stove. There will be 200 beds, doubling the number available in the current residence hall. Budgeting is still taking place and it is yet undetermined how much students will need to pay to live in the hall; the current range is $390-425 per month.
Shelly McNeely, the student development manager at Western Technical College stated “WTC has been operating on a waiting list to live in the residents hall for the ten years that I have been here.” The residence hall is in high demand and has been found in surveys to be a selling point of WTC.
