Musical comedy to be performed at UW-L
You don't have to travel all the way to New York to see a famous Broadway play this semester. The UW-La Crosse Department of Theatre Arts will be putting on the infamously hilarious play, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels.
UW-L theatre productions are always top notch. But director Mary Leonard, an associate professor in the Department of Theatre Arts, is especially excited about "Dirty Rotten Scoundrels". She has a hardworking, dedicated and talented crew this year and admits that the roles in this play seemed to find the actors without much search. The students interested in the roles are taken into deep consideration in the selection process, but one of the most important deciding factors is the type of actors and their stage personality. These students have been hard at work on this play, rehearsing for about three hours each night to perfect every dance step and song lyric. "I literally laughed out loud when I was reading the script," said Leonard. She has high hopes for this production. The actors are just as excited as Leonard about the play.
"Dirty Rotten Scoundrels" is a musical comedy about a con-artist who seduces women for their riches. However, the dynamics of his diabolical plan change when he meets his new partner in crime, and takes him under his wing as a student. Soon, the student begins to compete with his teacher and a war of seduction and deception is waged. The men agree that the first person to cheat $50,000 from a rich woman will be able to stay peacefully in town, while the other must leave forever.
Come and see the UW-L production of "Dirty Rotten Scoundrels" and you will surely be left in stitches. You will also be supporting the tremendous effort that these talented students have put into the production of a quality Broadway musical while enjoying some personal entertainment. The play will take place on Feb. 25-27 as well as Mar. 3-6. Times vary, so further information and ticket purchases can be found by calling the Box Office at 608-785-8522 or visiting the Box Office located in the Center for the Arts on campus.
