The college football season is winding down and there is still no clear cut favorite to win these years Heisman Trophy. Some candidates have been in the Heisman consideration all season long and some have just show up and have been talked about of late. Here's a list of the likely finalists for this years Heisman Trophy.
Toby Gerhart RB Stanford
Rushing: 1,736 yards, 26 TD, 5.6 yards per carry
Toby Gerhart leads that nation in rushing yards and touchdowns. His high performance of late has brought his name into Heisman consideration. In a win over Notre Dame last Saturday, Gerhart rushed for 205 yards and 3 touchdowns in their 45-38 win. He has three games of at least 200 yards rushing and five games of at least 3 rushing touchdowns this season.
Mark Ingram RB Alabama
Rushing: 1,429 yards, 12 TD, 6.5 yards per carry
Mark Ingram has been at the top of many Heisman lists of late but his poor performance against Auburn last Saturday may have his stock dropping. He rushed for only 30 yards and didn't reach the end zone in Alabama's 26-21 win. With a good performance against number one ranked Florida in the SEC title game, Ingram can once again find his name atop the Heisman list and give his Alabama team a spot in the National Championship.
Colt McCoy QB Texas
Passing: 3,328 yards, 27 TD, 71.8 completion percentage, 152.9 passer rating
Colt McCoy has his team undefeated and with a win this Saturday in the Big 12 Championship, a likely spot in the National Title game. McCoy is top 10 in the nation in passing yards and touchdowns and leads the nation with a 71.8 completion percentage. McCoy was a Heisman finalist last season and already has a spot reserved for himself in New York for this year's Heisman Trophy presentation.
Tim Tebow QB Florida
Passing: 2,166 yards, 17 TD, 66.4 completion percentage, 160.7 passer rating
Rushing: 796 yards, 13 TD
Already with a Heisman Trophy on his mantle, Tim Tebow aims to be only the second two-time Heisman Trophy winner along with Ohio State's Archie Griffin. Tebow won the Heisman in 2007 and was a finalist again in 2008. With a win Saturday in the SEC title game, Tebow and the Gators will once again be in the National Championship game. Tebow doesn't have the gaudy numbers that the other candidates have, but the leadership and will he presents week in and week out in not comparable to anyone else.
