He won his third Grammy for Best Native American Music Album for “Spirit Wind North.”

Miller attended UW-L in the 1970s.

He won his first Grammy in 2005 for “Cedar Dream Songs.”

Miller performed and was a presenter during NCUR (National Conference on Undergraduate Research) here at UW-L last April.

In a La Crosse Tribune letter to the editor, Feb. 5, 2009 Bill Miller expressed his gratitude to the La Crosse Community...

“Thank you, La Crosse. I would like to thank the entire La Crosse community for its continued support of my career over these many years. I share this Grammy award with you and look forward to coming home soon to celebrate. It all started at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse in my first band, Morning Star, The Freighthouse and then the move to Nashville. The Coulee Region is still a place of refuge for me. Thank you to the La Crosse Symphony Orchestra and the Tribune. I’ve recorded two Grammy-winning CDs in La Crosse with my dear friend and co-producer, Michael Von Muchow. Let’s not stop now. Blessings to all.

— Bill Miller”
