Once you get past the tiny, heart-shaped antacids and overpriced greeting cards, there are a lot more adventurous ways to unleash your innate desire to make whoopee. Aphrodisiacs are foods that make your veins course with love hormones. Move over Viagra, these foods will keep you coming back for more again and again. I’m not saying that these foods will make you a regular Casanova …but they certainly can’t hurt your chances.
Coffee
Coffee stimulates both the mind and the body and can prepare you for a hardcore “all-nighter” (of studying). This drink is easily the most socially acceptable stimulant and is known to elevate mood (among other things). In scientific studies, it has been revealed that coffee can increase levels of dopamine, the neurotransmitter associated with the pleasure center in the brain. Coffee also helps with blood circulation, which is essential if you are planning on taking your energy rush all the way. I can’t think of a better way to start the day!
Vanilla
Vanilla’s overpoweringly seductive scent is said to increase affection and get those juices pumping. This makes vanilla a secret weapon for dates. Rise to the occasion and light some vanilla-scented candles to let its intoxicating aroma ripen the air with love. As soon as someone catches a whiff of vanilla, the hypothalamus gland jumps into action and evokes feelings of desire.
Banana
The provocative shape of this fruit makes it the winner for the world’s most suggestively perverse food. Putting phallic allusions aside, bananas have a long history of an arousing reputation. In Islam, the banana, not the apple, was believed to be the forbidden fruit of the Garden of Eden. In Central America, the sap of the red banana tree is sipped as an aphrodisiac elixir. Even today, bananas are included in Indian offerings to the fertility gods.
Bananas contain loads of potassium and B vitamins, necessities for sex hormone production. They also contain the bromeliad enzyme, said to enhance the male libido and performance while providing an overall satisfying experience. Take some bananas on a picnic and see what pops up during conversation. Who knows, you could end up having loads of fun.
Asparagus
Is anyone going to doubt a long, fibrous shaft’s ability to arouse? In 19th century France, bridegrooms were served three courses of these sexy spears at their prenuptial dinners. In fact, The Vegetarian Society even suggests that three days of nibbling on this shaft will increase sexual desire.
The secret of asparagus is in more than its shape. Asparagus is a great source of potassium, fiber, vitamin B6, vitamins A and C, and thiamin and folic acid. The latter is said to boost histamine production necessary for the ability to reach orgasm in both men and women.
Chocolate
Chocolate is the king of aphrodisiacs and contains a concoction of chemicals for provoking your libido. Some of these compounds include anandamide, the psychoactive feel-good chemical, and PEA (phenylethylamine), the “love chemical,” which releases dopamine in the pleasure centers of the brain and peaks during orgasm. Eat some chocolate and prepare yourself for an explosion of flavor!
All of these erogenous foods may not have the same sexually stimulating effects and result in the same sensuous experience. But who knows? You may just get lucky and keep your cupid shooting all night long.
