Best Places for Coffee in La Crosse

When you think of coffee you think: functioning in the morning, getting through classes, and late night studying. Even if you’re not a black coffee type of person, there are so many different options that contain espresso so it’s hard not to find something that you will like. Living in La Crosse, we have a lot of different options when it comes to coffee places.

Java Detour is located on West Ave. and State St. and is a great location for students that live right in that area, but it is also close enough to campus that any student can enjoy their coffee. They open at 6 am, so it’s a great way to start off the day. Depending on the time of year, they have specials such as getting larger drinks for the smaller price, and other deals like that. You can also be part of their Facebook group, or get weekly texts stating all the promotions of the week. They also have a bakery section with delicious donuts and other bakery goods.

Another coffee shop in La Crosse is Grounded Specialty Coffee. They are located in historic downtown on Main St. Their location was built in 1857 so it truly is a historic area. They have seven different types of free trade coffee daily, and the usual espresso drinks. Along with their amazing coffee, they also offer tea, lunches, and gelato ice cream. They are open at 6:00 am Monday through Saturday, and are open til 6:00 pm. They offer breakfast items such as bagels and oatmeal, and lunch items such as wraps, salads, and sandwiches. This is a great place to get coffee, and even better if you are hungry for delicious food.

The Root Note is the perfect atmosphere for any coffee lover. Located on 4th St, it’s in the heart of downtown. Bands and musical groups, such as Dan Collins and a Piano, play there, and with comfy seats it’s a great place to have a cup of coffee. They also have teas and meals there, including vegetarian options. If you’re looking for a place to sit and relax, the Root Note is a great choice.

If you have a test coming up, and you need a good place to study, Jules is the place to go. With a comfortable, old school atmosphere and a variety of drinks, it is the perfect location to either study or just hang out with friends. They are open til 12 most nights, and have an abundance of outlets if you need your computer. One of the unique things about Jules is that they serve organic vegetarian soup fresh daily that is made by the owner. They also offer a variety of baked goods that anyone would like.

If you prefer to go with coffee drinks that are well known, there are many franchise coffee shops in La Crosse and surrounding areas. There is Gloria Jeans and Starbucks, which are both located at the Valley View mall. There is also Caribou Coffee which is served right on campus in both Murphy Library and Trat if your looking for a caffeine fix before or after a class.

When choosing coffee, it depends on what you prefer, and how much espresso you need to make it through the day. Its easy to find a location for coffee in La Crosse, and whether you need a place to study, a quick pick-me-up, or just want to relax somewhere, there are
