My purpose in writing to you is to persuade the La Crosse area to help lessen the effects of natural disaster damage by supporting the work of American Red Cross.

I started becoming interested in helping those affected by natural disaster when I was a freshman in high school and I went to New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina. In addition, I have read numerous newspaper articles about natural disasters, and talked to Jamie Abbott, who is the Director of Emergency Services of La Crosse area's American Red Cross Organization.

Every year, people are killed or severely injured by severe thunderstorms, floods, and tornadoes in the La Crosse area. Through the American Red Cross, many families are able to receive assistance in order to get back to their normal lives after disaster strikes.

Anyone can help the Red Cross out in many ways, including volunteering and donating. You can join the Disaster Action Team to get directly involved with disaster relief. Or, you can donate blood at blood drives to benefit those affected by disaster in need of blood, or simply participate in Red Cross funded 5k fun runs.

Everyone deserves a home free from destruction caused by natural disaster. I hope I have successfully proven the need for disaster relief in our community and how the Red Cross can help these causes.
